When Julia* started working as a teacher in our education project at the home for children with disabilities in Jalal-Abad, she was not sure how it would go. She had some training as an educator, but no experience with children with disabilities. However, as Julia got to know the children, she began to see their abilities as well as their disabilities.
As the months went by, Julia recognized the lack in her own training and longed for new ideas to help these special children to learn and grow. The manager of the education project brought relief in the person of an American special educator from Osh — the next city over. She spent time with Julia and the other teachers in Jalal-Abad, addressing their questions about specific children, as well as encouraging them and sharing new ideas.
Julia has new energy now in her especially important work!
In our Project Restore, we are working together with our local partners, to empower, encourage and help provide opportunities for a better future for children at risk!
