Learning and Teaching

A young nurse who attended the Doula Training run by our partners in Kyrgyzstan, shared that she was planning to wean her 9-month-old baby soon. After learning about all the benefits of breastfeeding, and that the World Health Organization recommends breastfeeding for two years, she has rather decided to continue providing the perfect food to nourish her little one and keep his immune system strong and his brain growing and developing to its full potential!

Because this nurse works in a local clinic and has influence and impact on the pregnant women who come into the clinic, she will pass this information on as she cares for pregnant and lactating women.

She now also teaches about the “hip squeeze” in her birth classes, as a way to open the pelvis to help the baby’s descent and help relieve pain. She also teaches that dim lighting improves oxytocin release, which in turn promotes active labor.
