'Addiction Prevention in Family Settings' was the title and theme of a five day capacity building workshop held in Iran. Operation Mercy Iran successfully conducted this workshop, the 12th of its kind in partnership with the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) for local Iranian NGOs. It has been a privilege to partner with IRCS and we have appreciated our long-term partnership.
The goal of the workshop training was: "Local NGOs are professionally, intentionally and effectively involved in addiction prevention programs and projects in Iran". The participants were from a variety of local NGOs in drug dependence prevention and treatment fields and we had a consistent number of 47 participating throughout the five-day event: it is remarkable to mention that 24 participants were from other provinces/cities including Shiraz, Yazd, Gorgan, Qom, Alborz, Sari, Mashahad, and Kerman.
It was also a privilege to have participants from the "Ministry of Health and Medical Education", the "Ministry of Cooperative Labor and Social Welfare" and the "University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences".
The lead facilitator of the event was Mr. Monster (MA) from Netherland who has been working in the area of drug dependence prevention, treatment and social/labor reintegration for over 38 years. Mr. Monster has conducted professional trainings internationally, particularly in Central Asia and Eastern Europe. He is a passionate and extremely experienced trainer and we look forward to having him and his wife in future trainings in the drug dependence field.
Operation Mercy Iran expresses its sincere gratitude to the esteemed Swiss Embassy in Iran for faithfully and generously partnering with Operation Mercy Iran for the past five years as the main donor able to conduct capacity development trainings for local NGOs.
Since 2010, through the training of local NGOs in leadership and project management skills, Operation Mercy Iran has become a training hub for capacity development of NGOs in Iran.
