Over a year and a half ago, Nazanin*, was born prematurely. Several complications arose during her birth and the doctors gave her not more than 4 days to live.
Today she is 1 ½ years old, with a smile that warms everybody’s heart. She is an alert child, carefully watching everything that is going on around her. Her limbs, however, show the signs of cerebral palsy and so her mother brings her to occupational therapy 2 days a week.
In addition, an otologist has prescribed a hearing aid for Nazanin as a hearing test showed that she only has some hearing ability in one ear and is deaf in the other. The sooner Nazanin receives her hearing aid, the sooner she can start with speech therapy, which would greatly accelerate her development. Unfortunately, like so many Afghan refugees in Iran, Nazanin’s family do not have the financial means to cover expenses like these. Her father works as a day labourer when he can, however he has not found work for weeks in a row.
Nazanin and her family are just one of many Afghan refugees in Iran that the Disabled Afghan Refugee Project is impacting with the help of private and institutional donors. Among the population that it serves, there are 8 other children and youth currently in need of a hearing aid. With your help, we can make it happen. 700 USD will give the gift of hearing to Nazanin or another Afghan refugee child.
