Building Capacity Amongst local NGOs

Operation Mercy Iran successfully conducted the eleventh capacity building workshop entitled "Second Disaster Preparedness Workshop (Complementary)" for local Iranian NGOs, in partnership with the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS). Operation Mercy Iran has been privileged to be partnering with IRCS and has, indeed, enjoyed the synergic long-term partnership.

The goal of the workshop training was:

Local NGOs are encouraged to take part and be soundly equipped to respond to disasters/hazards by providing well-planned and implemented disaster response/preparedness programs enhanced by monitoring and evaluation skills in Iran.

This workshop had 37 participants throughout the five-day training workshop. The participants were from a variety of NGOs involved in disaster preparedness and response and other fields including children protection and refugee related issues. 17 participants were from Tehran and 20 from other cities including Shiraz, Yazd, Gorgan, Karaj and Kerman.

The first three days of the workshop focused on "Disaster Preparedness" and the final two days on "Monitoring and Evaluation" of projects. Mr. Korevaar (the lead facilitator of the workshop) is the Director of Shape Your World (SYW) and he has been working in the humanitarian aid sector for more than 10 years. He has been involved in preparedness and response in a myriad of disasters/hazards internationally. His current focus is on building capacity in NGOs by means of consultancy, training and coaching. Mr. Korevaar is an excellent facilitator and has a lot to offer NGOs.

Operation Mercy Iran expresses its sincere gratitude to the Swiss Embassy in Iran that kindly provided the funding. They have been a faithful partner for the past 4 years and continue to build capacity amongst local NGOs.
